Background

Indonesian Film Industry went through decades of near death experience. Its resurrection in the year 2000 was marked by a new school of Indonesian filmmakers
(approx. 70% are women film makers). After seven years of its rebirth, horror films are dominating the national film genre. Little space are left for films with original ideas that portrays the real condition of Indonesia as a growing nation. Kalyana Shira Films came to formation upon its founders and members strong concern towards the
development of Indonesian New Cinema. The founders are film workers who debuted and actively involved in the film industry shortly after the Indonesia’s
1998 reform (Post Soeharto era), had their share in reviving the local film industry and bring back public’s appreciation to Indonesian films. Issues of women, gender, children and other marginalized groups in Indonesia are its priority.

Objective

Women, children and other marginalized group in our society are rarely depicted in Indonesian films. The nature of film making requires a great financial effort,
given the specific issues such as struggle in women’s life doubled the burden. Therefore the realization of this work will need many supports from funding agency and organization with similar concern and mission. With the support of Ford Foundation we are able to complete the production part, and we are now inviting other institutions, companies and partners to do a mutual cooperation in doing post production and promotion of the film.
