Tomorrow People Ensemble

The Band
It started in early 2003. The quartet grew and evolved as naturally and organically from their first jam session. They had no real plan and kinda made things up as they went along (still do in fact).
But then the 1st problem suddenly came. We don’t have a name for our band. Because the café needs to do some kind of promotion for the show that we’re going to do back then. So they need to put our name in the posters .So after weeks and weeks of searching, we came up with Tomorrow People Ensemble.
The word Tomorrow People means (according to our perception for the band and the music itself) “..to always look ahead without neglecting the past..” And the word ensemble means a group of musicians playing or singing together.
The Gig
First, it was the gig at @ksara café back in May 2003 , then opening it up a bit at the Manna House in early September 2003. The guys held onto their various side-gigs and all four continued to work with other artists and groups (still do in fact) but the quartet was un-derivative, un-jazz and unlike anything they had ever experienced before. They were having a great time (still do in fact).
In 2004 things were getting serious. After playing in gigs, we had a chance to do our first little concert. It was in Pondok Pinang ( PonPin) Concert Practice. It’s a mini art centre where they have a performance and jam session every Friday afternoon. Thanks to Indra Lesmana and Aksan Sjuman the creator of the event ( both are great musicians).
Then another concert in Jazz Festival called Pasar Jazz created by Riza Arshad .It was held at The Gedung Kesenian Jakarta in April 2004.Then a concert @ Institut Musik Daya in early August 2004, etc (..you can view it on the list..).
The Music
This is one of the hardest part if someone ask what kind of music that we’re playing. We let any kind of music that sounded good come to our ears and let that music inspires us. But definitely we have a lot of Jazz influence in our music (harmony, rhythm, improvisation). But also rock n roll, blues, reggae , electronic music, classical, even Indonesian Traditional Music.

The Future
We hope that we can get along with each other and continue playing, making good music and make recordings in the future. Because each member cites the need to grow individually as musicians and with a sincere desire to learn more about themselves and their art away from the band... to practice, to learn and to grow. Together and apart.

But one thing that we could say "as long as the music's still growing and remains fresh then we hope we'll still be together , we all kinda feel that way."
